Accessibility

We want everyone to be able to use this site, on any device, with any assistive technology.

Our target

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA.

  • Every page works with a keyboard, with a visible focus ring and a “Skip to content” link.
  • Buttons and links are at least 44 pixels tall, so they're easy to tap.
  • Text and controls meet AA colour contrast. Information is never shown by colour alone.
  • Animations switch off if your device asks for reduced motion.
  • Short sentences and plain words, because many of our readers use English as an additional language.

How we check

Before each release we run automated checks (axe-core) on every page at a desktop width (1440 pixels) and a phone width (390 pixels).

Client verification requiredwhether and when a manual review with screen readers has been done

What we know still falls short

  • Photos of our team and office are placeholders until we have real ones. Each placeholder describes the photo in words.
  • Handwritten notes in the margins are decoration and are hidden from screen readers. What they say is repeated in the text nearby.
  • Some official sources are long PDF documents on government sites. We don't control them.
  • WhatsApp and the official sites we link to have their own accessibility.
